New Draft Organic Law on Sports Structures Reviewed in Kasbah Cabinet Meeting

Kasbah: Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri led a Cabinet meeting at the Government Palace dedicated to examining a revised draft organic law concerning sports structures. The meeting, held on Saturday, focused on the amendments made by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which incorporated feedback from various ministries and relevant bodies.

According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the proposed legislation aims to replace Organic Law No. 11 of 1995, as its provisions are considered outdated and misaligned with the current state of Tunisian sports and the global evolution of athletic activities. At the meeting's outset, the Prime Minister underscored the necessity of reorganizing sports structures, highlighting its significance as a priority for the sector's advancement.

Prime Minister Zenzri emphasized the need to keep pace with regional and global developments. She noted that sports should be viewed not only as recreational or competitive activities but also as opportunities for wealth creation and social-economic development. This necessitates an alignment of legislation and legal texts with these evolving dynamics.

The Prime Minister reiterated the President of the Republic's directives to reform the sports sector, aiming for a clear distinction between professional and amateur practices. She stressed the importance of eliminating corruption and intermediary networks while establishing a sound legal framework to secure the future of Tunisian sports.

During the session, Minister of Youth and Sports Sadok Mourali introduced the revised draft law, asserting its alignment with international standards governing sports structures. The draft seeks to provide a modern legal framework to boost the development of Tunisian sports by drawing from international experiences and comparative laws.

The draft law enshrines principles such as democratic organization and management of sports structures, transparency, improved governance, and enhanced management and financing of sports clubs, all while ensuring the sustainability of public sports services. Key principles include:

- Ensuring democratisation of sports structures

- Guaranteeing transparency

- Governance of sports management

- Developing management of sports clubs

- Financing and supporting sports structures

- Ensuring the continuity and sustainability of public sports services

Prime Minister Zenzri highlighted the critical role of updating sports laws and legislative texts, emphasizing the state's reliance on youth and sports elites to elevate the national flag and enhance Tunisia's presence on the international sports stage.

Concluding the discussions, the Prime Minister stated that the revised draft law, after considering all observations, will be tabled for further deliberation at a forthcoming Cabinet meeting.
