Accra: Some parents of form one Senior High School (SHS) students have voiced their concerns regarding the Ghana Education Service's (GES) decision to broadcast virtual vacation classes on Multi-TV instead of the more accessible Ghana Television (GTV). According to Ghana News Agency, the majority of parents expressed difficulty in accessing the Multi-TV platform due to not possessing the required decoder. They have suggested that the virtual learning sessions be aired on the GTV free learning channel to ensure wider accessibility. Several parents, in conversations with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, questioned the decision-making process of GES, highlighting the lack of stakeholder engagement. Mr. Peter Adjei, a concerned parent, stated, "I wonder why, for such a programme, it is this platform that has been chosen. It is surely going to defeat the purpose as a whole lot of students will be cut off on account of the platform being used." He, along with other parents, believes that utilizing GTV as an altern ative would be more beneficial. Madam Serwaa Duah noted, "We are all living under a tight budget; switching to GTV will best serve the nation," while expressing her frustration that her daughter is missing out on the ongoing programme due to the lack of a Multi-TV decoder. Another parent, Madam Gifty Asamoah, mentioned the disadvantage many children face, saying, "Unfortunately, most of our children will be disadvantaged and may not be able to join the virtual learning because not all of us have the DSTVs and the Multi TVs." The GES, in a statement obtained by the Ghana News Agency, informed Regional Directors of Education about the virtual learning initiative for senior high school students, accessible only on Multi-TV. The statement, signed by Professor Smile Dzisi, Acting Deputy Director-General of GES, emphasized the need to continue academic activities through virtual learning for form one SHS/SHTS students who have already completed nine weeks of schooling. The lessons are scheduled to be broadcast from September 1 to September 19, 2025, between 14:00 and 20:00 hours. The management also urged students to download curriculum resources from the provided microsite, which is data-free, to aid their learning. The Ghana News Agency has reached out to the Ministry of Education and GES for comments but has not yet received a response.
