Accra, Mr Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has called upon the Minister of Defence, Mr Dominic Ntiwul, and the Minister for National Security, Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, to appear before the Defence and Interior Committee on Thursday, November 23. This summoning is in response to the recent clash between the Mo and Wangara tribes in the Kintampo North municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Bagbin emphasized the urgency of the matter, instructing the ministers and their commanders to provide a briefing to the committee at 0900 hours. He highlighted the critical role of the National Security Council and its regional office in intervening, given the chieftaincy institution's importance in maintaining peace and security in Ghana. The directive followed a statement by Mr Joseph Kwame Kumah, NDC MP for Kintampo North, who described escalating tensions due to overlapping ritual activities and festivals of the Mo and Wangara communities.
Mr Bagbin urged the government to act swiftly to ensure peaceful coexistence. Other MPs, including Mr Samuel Atta Akyea of NPP and Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie of NDC, echoed the need for resolution and intervention. Mr Haruna Iddrisu, an NDC MP, called for the Regional Security Council and Ministry of Interior's involvement to facilitate a peaceful solution, stressing the role of Parliament in supporting peace and security in the area.
