President Kais Saied Inaugurates 40th Edition of Tunis International Book Fair

Tunis: President Kais Saied inaugurated the 40th edition of the Tunis International Book Fair at the Kram Exhibition Centre. The event, which runs until May 3, 2025, is held under the slogan "Tunisia, Homeland of the Book." According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, President Saied was welcomed by Minister of Cultural Affairs Amina Srarfi, Governor of Tunis Imed Boukhris, Director of the Tunis International Book Fair Mohamed Salah Kadri, and various regional and local officials. Members of diplomatic missions accredited to Tunisia also accompanied him during his visit to various pavilions. The President began his tour by visiting the exhibition "Rhythm of Letters: Calligraphic Arts in Tunisia - Experiences and Trends," where he engaged with officials from the National Centre of Calligraphy Arts and students who contributed their works. He then explored the Tunis International Digital Cultural Economy Centre pavilion, learning about ongoing projects and innovations by young entrepreneurs supported by the cent re. During his visit to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs pavilion, President Saied interacted with children, including a visually impaired child and the twins Bisan and Bilsan Kouka, winners of last year's Arab Reading Challenge. He was briefed on the ministry's activities and those of affiliated institutions. At the pavilion of Indonesia, the guest of honour country, President Saied was welcomed by Ambassador Zuhairi Misrawi. He witnessed a traditional Indonesian dance and explored publications by the Indonesian Embassy in Tunisia and works by Indonesian students. The President also visited the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) pavilion, where he was introduced to the "Democratic Vigilance Kit," an educational tool for children and youth. He reviewed versions in Braille and materials intended for school clubs, as well as documentation for the upcoming Electoral Documentation and Studies Centre. Throughout his tour, President Saied visited various private publishers' stands, the University P ublishing Centre, the Ministry of Education pavilion, and other significant pavilions such as the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, the Ministry of National Defence, and the Higher Institute for the History of Contemporary Tunisia. He also explored pavilions of several countries including Algeria, Palestine, Oman, Iran, and Russia, and visited the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO). Additionally, he met with young participants from the National Centre for Child-Oriented IT, who presented the "Digital Safety Ambassadors" project. President Saied paid attention to public media institutions by visiting the pavilions of TAP news agency, SNIPE-La Presse, Assabah, and the Tunisian Radio Corporation. He concluded his tour by attending workshops in the children's and youth space.
