Tunis: President Kais Saïed paid a visit on Tuesday afternoon to the headquarters of the Ellouhoum company in El Ouardia. During this visit, the Head of State inquired about the conduct of activities at this company, which had been established in 1961, and held discussions with several officials regarding managerial excesses reported, notably corruption cases, according to a video published by the Presidency of the Republic. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the President also recalled several historical landmarks, stressing that he is closely following all situations nationwide. He underlined that Tunisians are currently facing significant challenges, which will be overcome through strong determination and decisive measures aimed at restoring many public institutions, enterprises and facilities to full activity once they recover their viability. The Head of State affirmed that the identified infractions and suspicious contracts linked to this company are documented, adding that there had been an in tention since the 1990s to transfer Ellouhoum through a change in its legal status. These infractions and illicit practices have continued even after 2010, the Head of State regretted, holding the various stakeholders fully and entirely responsible for the company's current situation. In this regard, he condemned the practice of slaughtering female cattle and sheep with the aim of eliminating livestock and production in Tunisia, denouncing the lack of hygiene measures, the spread of diseases in the company's slaughterhouse and the deterioration of equipment in use. Faced with this situation, President Saïed emphasised that it is the right of every Tunisian citizen to consume meat at prices previously set by the State, pointing to the involvement of several networks linked to parties within the administration and the company's slaughterhouse in the sale of unslaughtered and spoiled meat. Furthermore, Saïed returned to the attempts to transfer Ellouhoum to private individuals and banks since 1996, affirming t hat the implementation of the project to transfer this enterprise had been launched through the intervention of several individuals and companies who had endeavoured to perpetuate corruption and raise funds for studies that never materialised. Referring to the updating of the company's status, the Head of State specified that the objective underlying this measure was not to update said status but rather to achieve the transfer of the company itself. In this regard, he condemned several illegal practices, notably the recent pressure exerted on numerous officials to import meat from abroad, describing it as a "vast conspiracy" targeting the country. Faced with the rise in corruption, President Saïed reaffirmed his inflexible commitment to purge state public establishments and enterprises of corrupt individuals, reiterating his categorical rejection of their sale or transfer. Several companies have indeed resumed their activities, President Saïed recalled, assuring that efforts are underway to restart others, such as the Tunisian Sugar Company and the Tunisian Steel Company Elfouladh. In the same regard, Saïed emphasised the role of enterprises and public offices in price regulation, pointing to the diligent and daily monitoring of meat prices and other products on the market. As part of his visit, the Head of State visited the premises of the Ellouhoum company, which remains subject to a liquidation decision, where he inspected conditions within the enterprise as well as the dilapidated state of long-neglected equipment. Subsequently, President Saïed proceeded to the Bab El Fellah market, where he talked with vendors and listened to the citizens' concerns, reaffirming the State's commitment to relentlessly pursue its social role until the demands of Tunisians in all fields are met. In this regard, he promised that there would be no tolerance towards those who have appropriated the country's wealth, assuring that the Tunisian people would never be easy prey in anyone's hands, reiterating that the law remains the sole arbiter before which all are equal and that all citizens are equal before it.
