Adaklu kodzobi: Mr. Kwame Agbodza, the Roads and Highways Minister, has pledged his support for an ICT Centre being constructed for the Adaklu Kodzobi Basic School. He made an initial donation of 20,000 Ghana Cedis towards the project following an appeal by Togbe Dzegblade IV, Chief of Adaklu Kodzobi, during his visit to the community as part of a thank you tour of the Adaklu Constituency.
According to Ghana News Agency, Togbe Dzegblade expressed concerns that the community had not benefitted from government-sponsored projects and urged the Adaklu District Assembly to include the community in its development plans. The ICT Centre, which will also function as a science laboratory and a library, is being partly funded by the children of the late Eric Earl, a former Chief Education Officer in the Volta region, and his wife, with a contribution of 25,000 pounds sterling.
The funding was facilitated through Ghana School Aid (GSA), an NGO established by the Earl family in Britain 40 years ago to support education in rural Ghana. The funds were raised through the sale of memorabilia and antiques belonging to the late Eric Earl and his wife. The GSA plans to supplement the amount with its charitable funds, while the community is responsible for raising one-third of the project’s cost, which is currently at the lintel level.
Togbe Dzegblade committed to covering one-third of the community’s share of the project’s cost. Mr. Agbodza emphasized the importance of the project for serving the ICT needs of the entire Adaklu area. Mr. Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive, mentioned plans for constructing a community ICT centre in the district. Mr. Agbodza was joined on his tour by the Adaklu Constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress.
