President of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT), Zied Dabbar, in a meeting with Education Minister Mohamed Ali Boughdiri on Monday, called for priority to be given to journalists and communicators when recruiting in communication, press and public relations offices of ministries and their affiliated state companies. During the meeting, Dabbar also called for media education to be taught in high schools, especially in light of the prevalence of misleading and fake news, according to an SNJT statement. During the meeting, it was agreed to organise technical meetings between the two parties in the coming days to follow up on the possibilities of implementing these demands, according to the same statement. On the other hand, the SNJT president raised issues related to freedom of the press and access to information. He criticised what he saw as a "lack" in the government's approach to giving journalists access to information. These issues received a "positive response" from the minister, according to the SNJT statement. The official, civil and popular response to the Zionist invasion of Gaza and the possibilities of cooperation to support the Palestinian people on the political, diplomatic, humanitarian and media levels were also discussed.
