Takoradi: The Women's Ministry of the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) in Takoradi organized a breast cancer screening and sensitization event for its members as part of the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative aimed to educate attendees on risk factors, symptoms, and preventive measures associated with breast cancer, underscoring the importance of early detection. According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Sarah Agyemang, a breast cancer specialist, led the exercise, educating participants on various aspects of breast cancer. She highlighted that breast cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in Ghana. However, she stressed that regular screenings and self-examinations could significantly reduce mortality rates. Mrs. Agyemang outlined key risk factors such as family history, genetic mutations, age, dense breast tissue, radiation exposure, and hormone replacement therapy. She also briefed participants on the signs and symptoms of the disease, advising them to be vigilant for lumps or thickening in the breast or underarm, and changes in breast size or shape. On preventive measures, Mrs. Agyemang emphasized the importance of regular self and clinical breast examinations, mammograms for women over 40, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet, exercise, and minimal alcohol consumption. Mrs. Judith McClain-Afful, the Leader of the PIWC Women's Ministry, affirmed the ministry's dedication to raising breast cancer awareness. She stated, "We aim to educate our members and the community on the importance of breast cancer screening and early detection. We will continue to support initiatives that promote women's health and well-being." Pastor Borngreat Selasi Amedeka, the Resident Minister of PIWC, stated that the exercise was intended to raise awareness about breast cancer and motivate members to take proactive steps toward maintaining their breast health. He emphasized that the church's initiative demonstrated its commitment to the well-being of both its members and the broader community.
