Kpando: Togbui Dzablu IV, the Awafia of Kpando Dzewoe, has called on Ghanaians to prioritize fire safety, especially with the harmattan season approaching. He highlighted the dual nature of fire as both beneficial and potentially destructive, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and vigilance to prevent devastating consequences.
According to Ghana News Agency, Togbui Dzablu made these remarks during the Kpando Dzewoe Youth Foundation’s executive meeting. The foundation, dedicated to community development and empowerment, has made fire safety advocacy one of its core initiatives. Togbui Dzablu stressed the importance of not overlooking simple fire safety measures, as fires can spare nothing in their path and even result in loss of life.
He urged traditional leaders to form local firefighting volunteer groups to quickly respond to minor incidents before the Ghana National Fire Service arrives. He also appealed to community members to support local fire stations with donations of essential resources, s
uch as fuel and equipment, to boost firefighter morale and response effectiveness.
Togbui Dzablu called for vigilance among residents, urging them to report fire hazards or outbreaks promptly. He encouraged community members to volunteer or donate to educate others about fire safety and asked religious leaders to incorporate fire safety tips into their sermons to promote a culture of prevention and preparedness.
Emphasizing collective responsibility, Togbui Dzablu advised keeping local fire emergency numbers on speed dial, cautioning against reporting fires via radio stations to avoid delays. He praised the government and Fire Aid UK for donating firefighting vehicles but called for more advanced equipment to enhance fire response efforts.
