Madina: Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a friend and former colleague of the slain journalist Ahmed Suale, has been remanded by the Madina District Court. Koranteng, also known as Nana or Amakye, is a 35-year-old businessman who has been charged with murder. The police allege that Koranteng caused the death of Suale in Madina on January 16, 2019, through unlawful harm. While Koranteng has legal representation, the court has not yet taken his plea. He is scheduled to reappear in court on April 1, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, the prosecution has revealed that the petitioner, whose name has been withheld, is a relative of the deceased, Ahmed Hussein Suale. The accused, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, was the managing director of ISPY Company. Both Suale and Koranteng were employees of the Tiger Eye company, which is led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The prosecution stated that Koranteng had several interactions with Suale and his family prior to the journalist’s death.
The tensions reportedly escalated in June 2018 when Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, owner of Net2TV, broadcasted images of Ahmed Suale on his network, calling for retribution against him. The prosecution claims that Suale identified Koranteng as the person who provided Mr. Agyapong with his photographs. On January 16, 2019, following the publication of these images, Suale was shot and killed in Madina.
The court heard that call records placed Koranteng near Suale’s residence at the time of the murder. Further analysis indicated that later that day, Koranteng traveled from Madina to his home in Amasaman, arriving late in the evening. During the investigation, the accused declined multiple police invitations and fled to the United Kingdom in August 2019. He later returned to Ghana, and intelligence led to his arrest in Amasaman on March 15, 2025.
Koranteng admitted to knowing Suale and Mr. Agyapong and acknowledged taking photographs with the deceased but denied selling the photographs to anyone. Police investigations are ongoing to identify other suspects in the case.
