Tengvielli: Mr Dramani Moro, the Assemblyman for the Tengvielli electoral area, has made an appeal to the Sissala East Municipal Assembly to consider the construction of a dam in the region. The request comes as numerous boreholes have been unable to provide sufficient water for the community's consumption needs.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Moro highlighted that the scarcity of water forces many women in the community to walk several kilometers to fetch water for bathing and other domestic uses. The nine existing boreholes in the electoral area have proven inadequate, pushing some women to travel as far as 15 kilometers to Kassana and Kanzion in Burkina Faso in search of water.
Mr Moro spoke during a borehole drilling ceremony for the Fulani settlement at Tengvielli, organized by a church that chose to remain anonymous. He pointed out that the low water table in the area has been a significant concern, which has been raised with the Municipal Engineer, yet no immediate solution has been provided.
The Tengvielli electoral area is the largest within the Sissala East Municipality, comprising nine communities. However, only four of these communities have access to electricity, leaving the remaining six, including Katinia, Tanla, and Kunsola, grappling with inadequate lighting for years.
To tackle these challenges, Mr Moro pledged to advocate for more support from non-governmental organizations to install additional hand pump boreholes for residents. This initiative follows the current support being provided by the Church to the Fulbe community in Tengvielli.
In response to the efforts, Mr Iddrisu Amadu, the Fulani chief from Pieng, expressed gratitude for the support extended to the Fulbe community in Sissala East. He confirmed that a water user committee would be established to manage the new borehole effectively.
