ATFD reiterates commitment to full equality, effective citizenship

"Despite a weak female representation in the current parliament, women's rights will remain at the core of the feminist struggle which will unflinchingly persist in their efforts to advance effective democracy and full citizenship in Tunisia, " the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women (French: ATFD) said Monday as it marked its 34th anniversary. A wealth of experience in the advocacy of women's rights was acquired after more than thirty-four years of multi-faceted activism, the association said. This in addition to contributing to some achievements and to the fight against authoritarianism and violence against them. The ATFD paid tribute to all those who fought to create this civil society organisation which is devoted to defend the interests of the people and the rights of women, in particular. It also voiced concern about threats weighing on the democratic process, such as the marginalisation of political and civil life, while affirming "the continuation of the struggle alongside partners to build a better Tunisia."
