Bardo Museum Spotlighted by TAP as Part of CGTN’s Media Initiative

Tunis: Tunis Afrique Presse news agency (TAP) is broadcasting on Saturday across its various platforms a short documentary featuring the Bardo National Museum. The latter was selected as part of a media cooperation and partnership project with China Global Television Network (CGTN) under an international media initiative launched by the network dubbed "Connecting the World through Museums" to mark the International Museum Day, observed on May 18. According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, TAP's contribution focuses on presenting the Bardo National Museum, considered one of the most important museums on the African continent and in the Arab world, owing to its international renown and cultural heritage. The documentary presents exterior scenes of the museum as well as artistic shots of its interior spaces, enabling global audiences to discover this cultural monument through Chinese platforms targeting various nations and civilisations. This journalistic work, lasting no more than three minutes, takes the view er on a visual journey beginning with the story of a young Algerian girl called "Aris", who arrived by coincidence on the day of filming, to visit the Bardo Museum with her family. The young girl recounts her journey through the mosaics inside the museum, which houses one of the most remarkable mosaic collections in the world, earning it the nickname "the world museum of mosaics". The camera accompanies young "Aris" on an immersive stroll through the museum's corridors. Her exploratory journey reveals the richness of the site, the details of the mosaics, and the history-laden atmosphere that permeates each room. This visual narrative also highlights the different civilisations that had marked Tunisian territory over the centuries, revealing Tunisia's cultural diversity through its history. The short documentary is paired with a narrative text written in prose, retracing the experience of the visit as well as the child's inner journey through the museum's spaces. This narrative unfolds in poetic verses by An is Labidi, lending the work a contemplative dimension. The agency's contribution is part of the "Connecting the World through Museums" initiative launched by CGTN, confirming the agency's commitment to promoting Tunisian culture and showcasing the country's archaeological sites globally. The CGTN network has broadcast this short documentary on its official website and across its digital platforms. It will be rebroadcast as part of a live programme on May 18, 2026, to mark International Museum Day, at midday Tunis time, 7.00 pm Beijing time. The presence of the Bardo National Museum, the sole representative of Africa and the Arab world in this international event, is significant. The visibility of the Bardo Museum will be ensured alongside museums and cultural institutions from China, Iran, Argentina, Brazil, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, and Greece, serving as international recognition of its historical and cultural value. The selection of the Bardo Museum from among world-renowned cultural institutions con firms its place among the most important heritage centres in Africa and the Arab world. It is an iconic monument of the Mediterranean region, reflecting the international community's growing interest in Tunisia's cultural heritage.
