California: Governor Gavin Newsom stated Monday that he will 'not tolerate acts of terror' against religious communities following the fatal shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, which resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including two suspected shooters.
According to Anadolu Agency, Governor Newsom expressed his horror over the violent attack at the mosque, a place where families and children gather, and neighbors worship peacefully. The shooting shattered this community space, prompting Newsom to extend California's deepest condolences to the affected families and communities.
He emphasized that worshippers should not fear for their lives and declared that hate has no place in California. Acts of terror or intimidation against communities of faith would not be tolerated, he asserted. In a message to the San Diego Muslim community, Newsom affirmed that California stands with them during this difficult time.
Authorities reported that three people, including a security guard, were killed at the Islamic Center. Law enforcement officials also confirmed that the two suspects died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
