Chief Urges Politicians to Focus on Peaceful Development Ahead of Elections

ZUARUNGU: In a firm address to political aspirants, Naba Bilea Namaal-Tinga Caeser A. Afegera III, the Paramount Chief of the Zuarungu Traditional Area, has urged politicians to refrain from inciting violence through their campaign messages. Emphasizing the importance of peaceful development, the chief's message aims to curb election-related violence in the region. According to Ghana News Agency, Naba Afegera III advised political parties and their supporters to focus on developing the community rather than engaging in violent activities that could tarnish their reputations. He stressed the need for party supporters to resist being manipulated by politicians, cautioning against sacrificing their lives for political gains. His remarks were made during the N'daakoya festival, an annual event celebrating a successful farming season and seeking blessings for the next. This year's festival, themed "The role of indigenes and social partners for peace, security, and development of Zuarungu," provided a platform fo r community leaders to address the importance of maintaining peace. The chief reiterated the significance of safeguarding the community's peace and integrity for harmonious coexistence. Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, also voiced his commitment to ensuring a peaceful election process. He urged his supporters to avoid actions that might disrupt the area's peace. Meanwhile, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper East Regional Minister, highlighted the government's dedication to implementing measures for peace and encouraged party supporters to engage in constructive dialogue. Dr. Salih noted that development cannot thrive amidst insecurity and called for chiefs to prioritize codifying succession plans to mitigate conflicts related to land and chieftaincy issues.
