CID Denies Claims of Police Officers’ Detention

Accra: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has refuted viral media reports claiming police officers were detained for allegedly arresting a judge over a traffic offence.

According to Ghana News Agency, the CID issued a statement emphasizing that the reports are false and lack any merit. The statement clarified the events surrounding the incident, explaining that on April 7, 2025, a Circuit Court Judge filed a petition alleging misconduct by four officers from the Adenta Divisional Police Command. The judge accused the officers, led by Inspector Godwin Dey, of harassment, assaulting her court clerk, and wrongfully towing her vehicle from the Adenta Court Complex to the Adenta Police Station.

The judge also highlighted that despite lodging a formal complaint at the Adenta Divisional Command, she had not received a response. In response to the petition, the CID initiated an investigation and summoned Inspector Dey, Inspector Francis Adjei, General Sergeant Dasebre Oti Boateng, and General Corporal Jonah Ajubulisa to the headquarters for questioning.

The CID’s statement made it clear that after providing their accounts, the officers were not detained and left the premises immediately. The statement urged the public to disregard the false publication and assured that ongoing investigations would adhere to established procedures.

The Police Administration reiterated its commitment to supporting officers who perform their duties lawfully while ensuring any allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated and addressed appropriately.
