Accra: The Three Districts Water Supply Scheme (3DWSS) under the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) has committed to enhancing water supply in specific districts within the Greater Accra and Volta regions. The agency has embarked on an expansion project aimed at improving accessibility for communities in these regions.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ezekiel Awinyan Mbangiba, the Water System Manager at Sege, stated in an interview that the agency has awarded a contract for expansion as part of efforts to increase water supply capacity. The expansion, which began in July 2024, includes laying additional pipes and installing supplementary pumps at the production site. The pipe installation has been completed, and the agency is currently working on the pump installations.
Mr. Mbangiba explained that once the pumps are installed, the lines will be tested, and the contractors will hand over the project to the agency for operationalisation. He expressed optimism that the remaining tasks would be finalized shortly to alleviate the ongoing water crisis affecting some communities.
He further mentioned that the 3DWSS is working diligently to expedite the project’s completion. However, during this period, communities served by CWSA might experience intermittent water supply. Mr. Mbangiba apologized for any inconveniences during this transition and urged customers to remain patient.
Beneficiary districts such as Ada West, Ada East, North Tongu, Ningo-Prampram, and Central Tongu have voiced dissatisfaction with water supply over the past decade. These concerns have led to significant demonstrations by youth groups, assembly members, and community members in previous years. Mr. Noah Asideka, an assembly member for the Ayetepa-Lotsubuer electoral area, shared that water has not been consistently available in his area for a year, often arriving late at night for less than thirty minutes.
