Accra: Management of Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has extended its congratulations to Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq) on her appointment as the Director-General of Prisons (DDP). The Foundation acknowledged the President’s exemplary choice, highlighting Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie’s extensive experience and commitment to public service.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, the Executive Director of CCF, expressed optimism about Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie’s leadership, anticipating a transformative era focused on the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates. He emphasized the Foundation’s eagerness to collaborate with her in promoting humane prison conditions and advocating for restorative justice.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie is the second female to hold the prestigious position within the Ghana Prisons Service. Her appointment by President John Dramani Mahama follows her previous role as the Deputy Director-General of Prisons (DDGP) in charge of Finance and Administration. She succeeds Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir, appointed by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2021.
With over 37 years of service in the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie began her career as a recruit in 1987, advancing through the ranks owing to her dedication and hard work. She has held numerous leadership positions, including roles as the Chief Legal Officer and Director of Operations. Her tenure is marked by significant reforms that benefited staff, inmates, and stakeholders.
Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was pivotal, securing essential health supplies and implementing policies that resulted in a zero-death record in Ghana Prisons. Additionally, she introduced initiatives such as year-round organic farming and skill training programs aimed at reducing reliance on government support and fostering inmate rehabilitation.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie, a Barrister-at-Law with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with Social Work, has been recognized with several awards for her contributions to public service and leadership. Her vision for the Ghana Prisons Service includes transforming it into a modern institution that supports the economy and enhances public safety.
