Criminal violence most prevalent in February (FTDES)

The February 2023 report on migration released by the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) showed an increase in violence in all its forms and a clear spread of violent, hateful and racist discourse on social networks and in public spaces. Criminal violence was the most prevalent in February (64.7%), followed by institutional, economic and protest violence at equal rates (11.8%), according to the report. 35% of the victims of violence were women and 88% of the acts of violence were committed by men. 64% of acts of violence were committed in the street, 17% in households and 5% at equal rates in the media, cyberspace and in schools. Over 35% of the acts of violence occurred in the region of Tunis, 17% in Nabeul and 17% in Sousse, followed by Sfax and Kébili at equal rates of 5%.
