DVLA Launches Nationwide Community Outreach Programme

Accra: The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has initiated a nationwide programme aimed at decentralizing services and raising awareness about road safety and regulatory compliance.

According to Ghana News Agency, the National Community Outreach Programme, launched in collaboration with road safety agencies, will offer essential DVLA services such as driver’s license applications and renewals, replacements for expired or lost licenses, and the issuance of International Driving Permits.

Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, DVLA Chief Executive, introduced the programme at an event held at Neoplan Bus Terminal in Accra. During the event, DVLA staff provided direct assistance to commercial drivers, educating them on the importance of renewing licenses and adhering to road traffic regulations.

Officers from the Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and National Ambulance Service were also present, advising drivers on safety practices and emergency procedures. Mr. Kotey emphasized that the initiative aims to extend DVLA services beyond office spaces and directly into communities, aligning with the Authority’s mandate to educate the public on road safety, Motor Traffic and Transport regulations, vision screening, fire safety, insurance, and first aid.

Mr. Kotey pointed out that the programme will focus on underserved communities to ensure equitable access to DVLA services. He noted that it would help dispel misinformation, eliminate middlemen, and uphold transparency and accountability in DVLA’s operations. “This outreach programme allows us to listen, learn, and deliver tailored solutions that promote safety, convenience, and trust,” he said.

In a speech read on his behalf, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse, praised DVLA for its ‘people-centred approach’ to public service delivery. He encouraged the public to embrace the reforms, take advantage of the programme, and help spread the message of safety. Nii Ahene Nunoo, Abola Mantse and representative of the Ga Mantse, also urged DVLA to ensure that commercial motor riders operate strictly under the proposed law regulating their activities.
