Accra: The Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) has declared its full support for President John Dramani Mahama's 24-Hour Economy policy, acknowledging its potential to transform Ghana's horticultural sector. Mr. Davies Narh Korboe, President of FAGE, announced the endorsement during a courtesy call on President Mahama at the Presidency in Accra. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Korboe emphasized that round-the-clock operations in processing facilities, cold chain logistics, and export handling can significantly reduce post-harvest losses, enhance product quality, and boost export competitiveness. FAGE expressed readiness to collaborate with government agencies and private sector institutions to develop interventions that would enable the horticultural sector to maximize the benefits of this policy. Mr. Korboe reiterated FAGE's commitment to working closely with the Mahama administration to realize their shared vision for agricultural transformation and export. He highlighted that with the right innovations, sustainable practices, and strategic investments, Ghana could achieve significant growth in the global agricultural market. He urged for immediate action beyond rhetoric, advocating for transforming Ghana's agricultural potential into economic prosperity. Mr. Korboe called for positioning Ghana not just as a producer of raw materials, but as a value-adding, processing, and exporting powerhouse that generates wealth and employment. Mr. Korboe appealed for continued presidential support and leadership to showcase Ghana's agricultural and export excellence globally, creating lasting economic value and a prosperous future for all Ghanaians. He expressed confidence that with President Mahama's leadership, strategic policy support, and collective commitment, Ghana would emerge as Africa's leader in agricultural exports and agro-processing. He highlighted the need for effective support to farmers and exporters, emphasizing financial inclusion, reduced bureaucratic bottlenecks, and lower int erest rates on agricultural loans. Additionally, he called for modern agricultural extension services focusing on climate-smart techniques and support for farmer organizations to achieve economies of scale. Mr. Korboe noted FAGE's collaboration with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) to promote eight competitive products, including chili pepper, pineapple, mangoes, sweet potatoes, yam, fonio, and coconut, in the global market. He sought President Mahama's support in further developing this portfolio to drive wealth creation. Approaching the Ghana Horticulture Expo 2025, Mr. Korboe invited President Mahama's leadership in positioning Ghana as Africa's agricultural powerhouse. He expressed optimism about achieving a US$5 billion target in non-traditional exports, creating sustainable livelihoods for thousands in the agricultural value chains. Mr. Korboe commended the government for the appreciation of the Cedi against major currencies and highlighted the importance of driving exports to sustain and stabilize the currency. He expressed confidence in transforming Ghana's agricultural landscape and establishing the nation as the continent's premier agricultural export hub through visionary policies and strategic investments. He also raised concerns about FAGE's exclusion from the boards of GEPA and Exim Bank Ghana, extending an invitation to President Mahama to serve as a special guest and keynote speaker at the upcoming Ghana Horticulture Expo in June, where 200 exhibitors and over 3,000 trade visitors are expected.
