Bolgatanga: The Ghana Health Service (GHS) in Bongo District of the Upper East Region has appreciated Naba Adendaa Awomyalum II, the Chief of Zorko-Kodorogo, for his commitment and contribution to health service delivery in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Chief has played a significant role by mobilizing resources to construct the Zorko Health Centre, establish a medical laboratory unit, and procure essential equipment for the facility to further universal health coverage. In recognition of his efforts, the management of the GHS in the District honored Naba Awomyalum II with a citation at the 2024 annual health performance review meeting held in Bolgatanga. The event was themed: 'Using Network of Practice to drive universal access to quality maternal health care in the Upper East Region.'
Ms. Estella Abazesi, the District Director of the GHS, presented the citation on behalf of the Service, acknowledging the Chief's dedication to championing health programs and advocating for quality healthcare. The citation highlighted the Chief's role as a pillar of progress, noting his support for health initiatives that have improved healthcare infrastructure and fostered a culture of wellness within the community. Through his leadership, critical health projects such as the construction of the Zorko Health Centre and a laboratory facility have been realized.
The Service also praised the Chief's resource mobilization efforts, which have ensured better healthcare access and improved living conditions for all. His exemplary leadership continues to inspire progress, fostering a healthier future for upcoming generations. "We salute your noble contributions and honor your legacy of service," said the management of the GHS.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the program, Naba Awomyalum II expressed excitement about the honor and thanked the management of the Service for recognizing his efforts. He emphasized the importance of a proper healthcare system for his community members, revealing that after the facility was constructed through community mobilization, he rallied support from community members based in southern Ghana to fund the procurement of equipment for the new laboratory.
"My people's health and well-being are of concern to me. So immediately I was enskinned by the Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional area, my people's health was my priority," Naba Awomyalum II stated.
