Keta: Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has announced that the government will allocate resources to transform the education sector to produce high-quality future leaders for the country. He emphasized the importance of digital literacy, stating that the government plans to introduce digital literacy policies from kindergarten to tertiary levels and improve the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Haruna made these remarks as the Special Guest of Honour during the 72nd Anniversary of Keta Senior High Technical School (Ketasco) in the Volta Region. He highlighted the need for a massive reset of the education system inherited by President Mahama and the NDC, describing the economy as "shaky." He promised that Ketasco would receive government support, including infrastructure development such as modern bathroom and dining facilities, toilet facilities, a fence wall, and a pick-up vehicle.
The Minister praised Ketasco for producing prominent and intelligent individuals and urged for continued support to help the institution produce more future leaders. He stressed the government's commitment to transforming Ghana's future to attract more investors and impact lives across all religious and ethnic backgrounds, calling for collective effort from Ghanaians.
In honor of Mr Stan Dogbey, Deputy Chief of Staff and an old student of Ketasco, Mr Haruna established the 'Stan Dogbey Awards Scheme' to encourage best-performing students. He pledged to personally support the award for the next ten years to motivate students.
Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, an old student and Paramount Chief of Amugo-Vego Traditional Area, chaired the anniversary event. He urged students to be disciplined, law-abiding, and focused on their studies to achieve success.
Mr Augustt Kwame Innocent, Ketasco's Headmaster, highlighted challenges such as the lack of modern dining and toilet facilities and uniform shortages. The anniversary celebration, themed 'Bridging the Gap; Harnessing the Past and Inspiring the Future,' was attended by old and current students, chiefs, stakeholders, and dignitaries including Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, and Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Keta MP.
