Beirut: The Israeli Air Force launched a series of attacks on Lebanon on Thursday, targeting multiple sites including a car during rush hour traffic near Beirut.
According to Ghana News Agency, a dpa reporter observed that two missiles hit a motorway south of Beirut, where numerous vehicles were present. Shortly after the attack, smoke was seen rising from the charred remains of a car on the roadside. The Health Ministry confirmed that one person was killed and three others were injured in the attack.
The Israeli military stated that they had eliminated a 'terrorist' near Beirut, who was allegedly affiliated with the Al-Quds Brigades of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. This individual was accused of smuggling weapons for Iran's elite military unit and orchestrating terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and military personnel.
The attack in such a congested area close to the capital is considered unusual. Following the incident, the Israeli army confirmed further attacks in Lebanon, specifically targeting military facilities, including weapons depots associated with the Lebanese Hezbollah militia in the southern region.
Prior reports from Lebanon indicated a series of attacks in the south of the country. Although Israel and Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, agreed to a ceasefire in November last year after over a year of mutual shelling, the Israeli military continues to carry out almost daily attacks on Lebanon, primarily focusing on villages in the south and east.
