Accra: A man who fired indiscriminately while Ghana Fire Service personnel were dousing a fire outbreak at Madina Redco on August 3 has been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court. Mustapha Iddrisu Danlad's actions resulted in six individuals being hit by pellets from his pump action gun.
According to Ghana News Agency, Danlad has been charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm without authority, possession of a firearm without lawful authority, and three counts of causing harm. He claims to be a Task Force Officer with EOCO and has pleaded not guilty. The court has remanded Danlad into police custody, with a reappearance scheduled for September 25, 2025.
Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Danku, informed the court that the complainant in the case was the Madina Divisional Police Command. On August 3, 2025, at approximately 13 hours, officers from the Madina Police Command responded to a fire outbreak at Redco Flats, Madina.
Prosecution stated that while personnel were assisting the Fire Service in dousing the fire, a misunderstanding arose between the accused and a group of people. After the situation calmed down, Danlad left the scene and returned with a pump action gun, firing indiscriminately without provocation.
The firing caused panic, leading people to flee the area. During the chaos, six individuals were struck by pellets from the gun. The victims were taken to the hospital, with some receiving treatment and others referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The court learned that Danlad went into hiding after the incident. He was eventually spotted and arrested by the police at Madina Redco on September 12, 2025, around 0500 hours.
