Mixed Reactions Greet Sacking of Tamale Teaching Hospital CEO

Tamale: The sacking of Dr. Adam Atiku, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), has dominated discussions in the hospital community, generating mixed reactions regarding its appropriateness.

According to Ghana News Agency, while some individuals believe that drastic measures were necessary to improve healthcare delivery at TTH, others argued that removing the CEO was not the solution to the facility's healthcare challenges.

Concerns have been raised about underlying issues at TTH, such as sabotage, tribalism, and indiscipline, leading to equipment breakdowns, lack of essential supplies, and poor work attitudes among some staff members. These issues need to be addressed to ensure improved healthcare delivery.

The Ghana News Agency visited the facility on Wednesday and observed that operations were proceeding smoothly, with patients reporting to the outpatient department and being attended to efficiently.

However, the agency gathered that some doctors at the facility were displeased with the CEO's sacking and the manner in which the Minister engaged with one of the medical doctors. Plans were reportedly underway to meet and consider their next course of action.

Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister for Health, announced Dr. Atiku's dismissal on Tuesday following an unannounced visit to the facility. The visit was prompted by complaints of poor healthcare delivery, and the Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the situation observed at the facility and the responses from some medical staff.
