Accra: The 2023 FinTech Sector Report by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has showcased remarkable growth in Ghana's digital financial landscape, with mobile money accounts now exceeding 65 million and transactions totaling more than GHS 1.9 trillion. According to Ghana News Agency, this significant increase marks a pivotal achievement in Ghana's progression towards a cash-lite and inclusive economy. The surge in mobile money usage is attributed to the broader acceptance of mobile financial services, offering a dependable and effective avenue for financial inclusion, particularly in underserved and rural areas. The report underscores mobile money's dominance in the financial ecosystem of Ghana, with transaction volumes showing exponential growth annually. The Bank of Ghana has emphasized the crucial role of Rural and Community Banks (RCBs) in the national financial inclusion strategy. Mrs. Awadzi also called on RCBs to develop financial products that cater specifically to the needs of their local communities, including farmers, small-scale traders, women, and persons with disabilities. She emphasized that services should align with agricultural and business cycles to ensure relevance and accessibility. Furthermore, Mrs. Awadzi urged RCBs to invest in training and uphold good corporate governance to enhance their adaptability to changi ng financial needs and ensure long-term stability. Mr. Alex Kwesi Awuah, Managing Director of ARB Apex Bank, also praised the successful implementation of the Financial Sector Development Project (FSDP), supported by the Government of Ghana and the World Bank, which has facilitated the digital transformation of RCBs. The 23rd Annual CEOs Conference, under the theme 'Positioning Rural Banking at the Centre of the National Financial Inclusion Agenda,' saw 147 CEOs from RCBs nationwide come together to discuss the sector's future. The event also featured key figures from the Bank of Ghana, the Association of Rural Banks, and Dr. Toni Aubyn, Board Chairman of ARB Apex Bank.
