Kumasi: MTN Ghana has organized a 'SME Business Clinic' in Kumasi as part of its efforts to foster business growth in the country. The event aimed to enhance the capacities of approximately 120 small and medium-sized enterprises in areas such as financial management, book-keeping, and emerging business technologies.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Mohammed Abubakari-Sidik, Head of SME Sales at MTN Ghana, emphasized the importance of periodic business education and exposure for SMEs to remain competitive. He highlighted the vital role SMEs play in the economy and the need for them to address occupational challenges to thrive.
Mr. Abubakari-Sidik expressed MTN's commitment to strengthening these businesses, which he described as the economy's strong pillars. He noted that similar clinics have been organized in Accra, Takoradi, and Tamale, and MTN plans to continue these efforts. Additionally, he announced a partnership with Sanlam Allianz to incorporate insurance policies into the clinic, aiming to protect SMEs from potential disasters like fire outbreaks.
He also pointed out a significant gap: many businesses lack an online presence, hindering their ability to secure local and international funding. To address this, MTN has initiated the creation of websites for small and medium enterprises to enhance their global recognition and access to resources.
Participants of the SME Business Clinic praised the program, stating that the practical and theoretical insights provided by MTN and its partners have deepened their operational understanding and will help them strategize for future business growth.
