Accra: The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has successfully arrested Uchechukwu Chima, a 56-year-old Nigerian national, who has been a long-time target of their anti-drug operations. The arrest took place in Oyarifa, a suburb of Accra.
According to Ghana News Agency, the arrest was confirmed in a statement signed by Mr. Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations. The statement revealed that a search conducted at the suspect’s hideout uncovered substances suspected to be narcotic drugs. Field tests on these substances confirmed the presence of cocaine and heroin.
The seized narcotics, which included approximately 192 kilograms of cocaine and 0.42 kilograms of heroin, carry an estimated street value of $2.1 million. The statement emphasized that Uchechukwu Chima had been identified as the mastermind behind several previous seizures and arrests conducted by NACOC.
NACOC highlighted that the seizure and arrest represent a significant step in removing a substantial quantity of drugs from circulation, potentially saving millions of lives from the dangers of drug abuse. Furthermore, the statement reiterated NACOC’s commitment to making Ghana an unprofitable destination for drug trafficking, ensuring the safety and well-being of both Ghanaians and the international community.
