Sunyani: Pastor Maxwell Obour Boateng Awuah, the President of the Midwest Ghana Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), expressed concerns over the increasing indiscipline in Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the country during the weekend. He advocated for radical and decisive measures to address the escalating issues of lawlessness, violence, and aggression in these schools, suggesting the reintroduction of caning as a disciplinary measure.
According to Ghana News Agency, Pastor Awuah shared his views during an interview at a joint service organized for SDA students in Sunyani. The Sunyani Municipal branch of the Ghana National Association of Adventist Student (GNAAS) hosted the service, which saw the participation of more than 800 students from both tertiary and SHS levels in the Sunyani Metropolis.
Pastor Awuah urged the Ghana Education Service to work with stakeholders to find lasting solutions to curb and reverse the rising acts of indiscipline within SHSs. He also highlighted concerns regarding the inadequate educational infrastructure in some government-absorbed missionary schools and called for governmental support to address these issues.
In acknowledging the government's efforts, Pastor Awuah praised its contributions to the development of quality education and hoped that with continued support, the Ghana Education Service could effectively tackle the growing indiscipline in schools.
Additionally, Pastor Joseph Kyeremeh, the Sunyani Municipal GNAAS District Pastor and Chaplain of the Sunyani SDA SHS, expressed his concerns about the rise of immorality, substance abuse, and occultism in some SHSs. He emphasized the importance of regularly gathering SDA students for interactions to identify and address challenges affecting their spiritual and social lives.
Pastor Kyeremeh also warned SHS students against engaging in pre-marital sexual activities, which could disrupt their education and jeopardize their future. He encouraged students to focus on their studies and cooperate with teachers in building a promising future.
