Kumasi: The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old taxi driver suspected to be involved in the murder of a young woman at Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, Robert Kwabena Boamah, 34, was apprehended from his hideout at Namong, near Offinso, on April 23, 2025, following a tip-off. A statement by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, revealed that after his arrest, the suspect appeared very weak. Upon interrogation, he confessed to consuming a bottle of weedicide in an attempt to take his own life after allegedly killing the woman, identified as Dorothy Owusu Annor.
The statement further indicated that on April 21, 2025, police received a distress call from the Tanoso Electoral area in the Kwadaso Municipality. The call reported that a young woman’s body had been discovered near the Mighty Jesus Educational Complex, at Dominase, near Abuakwa. A team of officers was dispatched to the scene, where family members identified the deceased as 23-year-old Dorothy Owusu Annor, also known as Maa Abena. The body was found with multiple stab wounds.
Preliminary investigations at the scene also uncovered an abandoned Opel Astra taxicab with registration number AS8575-Y, with its ignition key still in place. Further investigation linked the vehicle to the suspect, Robert Kwabena Boamah, leading to his subsequent arrest. During questioning, Boamah admitted to committing the crime and consuming weedicide in a suicide attempt.
Following his confession, Boamah was taken to the Abuakwa Polyclinic for treatment and was later discharged. The police statement confirmed that efforts are underway to arraign the suspect before the court to ensure justice is served. The Ashanti Regional Police command affirmed its commitment to maintaining the safety and security of residents and pursuing justice for victims of violent crime.
