ACCRA: President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the National Service Authority (NSA) on Friday, marking a pivotal shift aimed at enhancing youth development in Ghana. This initiative signifies a commitment by the government to better equip young people for national service and leadership roles, aligning with the broader national development goals. According to Ghana News Agency, the transformation from the National Service Scheme (NSS) to the National Service Authority is intended to foster sustainable socio-economic growth. During the official launch in Accra, President Akufo-Addo stressed the importance of modernizing the Authority's operations to meet contemporary standards, ensuring the youth are well-prepared for significant roles in the country's advancement. The programme was launched under the theme "The Dawn of a New Era." The move comes in the wake of Ghana's Parliament passing the National Service Authority Bill, 2024, which sets the stage for restructuring and expanding the national ser vice framework. This initiative is designed to meet the employment needs of recent graduates by enhancing training and skills development. Key objectives include promoting nationalism, voluntarism, and discipline among the youth, which are seen as essential to the country's development strategy. The national service concept has been a cornerstone of Ghana's development agenda, with millions of service personnel deployed across various sectors to support the national workforce over the years. President Akufo-Addo expressed optimism that the elevation of the National Service Scheme into an Authority would instill civic responsibility, discipline, patriotism, national cohesion, and voluntarism in those undertaking national service. He urged the leadership of the Authority to prioritize critical sectors such as health, agriculture, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), alongside other technical fields vital for the nation's progress. The President commended the Authority for its achievements and a ssured that the government would continue to provide the necessary support for its sustainable growth. President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that the passage of the National Service Bill into law would enable collaboration between relevant institutions to create a safety net for graduates who complete their mandatory national service. He emphasized the importance of leadership commitment to refining the Authority's operations for national benefit, pledging his continued support as a Patron of the Authority. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, praised the President for his support of the Authority.
