Public Advised to Avoid Lifestyle Diseases

Tamale: Dr Malcolm Mambuoraa Dery, a Medical Doctor at Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), has advised the public to avoid lifestyle diseases, which are primarily based on daily habits. He emphasized the importance of managing daily habits and lifestyles to prevent a range of medical issues, including obesity, hypertension, diabetes, mellitus, stroke, heart-related diseases, and certain forms of cancers.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Dery, who also serves as a Neurosurgeon at TTH, shared these insights during a health awareness event at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Tamale. The purpose of the event was to educate church and community members on the significance of preventing lifestyle diseases.

Dr Dery highlighted the benefits of daily exercise, such as walking and jogging, and advised against prolonged sitting to maintain a healthy body weight, reduce cholesterol, and enhance both physical and mental strength. He also encouraged the public to avoid smoking, limit alcohol intake, and consume a balanced diet rich in high protein, low carbohydrates, less oil, and more green leafy vegetables and fruits.

Additionally, Dr Dery advised against the consumption of junk food and cold drinks, excessive salt or sugar, and stressed the importance of staying hydrated. He urged individuals to regularly monitor their health status to enable early diagnosis and timely management of potential diseases.
