Putin Highlights Russia-China Friendship as a Model of Cooperation Ahead of Beijing Visit

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the relationship between Moscow and Beijing has reached an unprecedented level and reiterated that the friendship between the two nations is 'not directed against anyone'. This statement was made ahead of his visit to China, as reported by Russian state news agency TASS on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, in a video address released prior to his trip to Beijing, Putin outlined the commitment of Russia and China to expanding cooperation in various sectors such as politics, the economy, defense, and humanitarian exchanges. He emphasized that the partnership is built on 'mutual understanding and trust' and the support of each other's core interests, including sovereignty and state unity.

Putin announced his visit to Beijing was at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom he referred to as a 'long-time good friend'. He stressed the importance of regular high-level contacts for strengthening bilateral relations. The two countries have developed a 'genuinely strategic relationship and comprehensive partnership' following the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation signed 25 years ago.

The Russian President highlighted the special nature of their relationship, marked by mutual understanding, trust, and a commitment to equitable cooperation. This relationship is characterized by respectful dialogue and mutual support on issues affecting the core interests of both nations, such as the protection of sovereignty and state unity.

Putin also lauded the economic cooperation between the two countries, noting that bilateral trade has exceeded $200 billion, with transactions conducted 'almost entirely in rubles and yuan'. He welcomed the implementation of a mutual visa-free regime, which he believes will enhance tourism, business travel, and people-to-people exchanges.

Furthermore, Putin expressed admiration for China's history and culture and expressed a desire to deepen humanitarian and cultural ties between the two nations.
