Rotary Club of Wa Marks Decade of Impact and Change

Accra: The Rotary Club of Wa has celebrated a significant milestone with its ninth handing over and tenth anniversary event, highlighting a decade of impactful initiatives that have transformed lives in the region and beyond.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event saw participation from Rotarians across Ghana and beyond, including the Assistant Governor of Rotary District 9104, Rotaractors, and friends of the Rotary Club. The gathering, held in Wa, showcased the Club's achievements through partnerships with other Rotary Clubs, the Rotary Foundation, and individual donors under the 2024/2025 Rotary theme, 'The Magic of Rotary'. These collaborations have led to numerous successful projects that have benefited many.

The Club's initiatives over the years have included the Jirapa water expansion project, the Bole school Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project, the Eremon Senior High Technical School computer and WASH projects, and the Sabuli and Karni health projects. Additionally, six boreholes were constructed for communities under the GhanaWASH project.

Dr. Zakarea Al-Hassan Balure, the Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Wa, expressed gratitude for the partnerships and support the Club received, which facilitated the execution of impactful projects. Under his leadership, the Club completed six projects, including a WASH project at Bole Senior High School, renovation of classrooms at Korabaso Primary School, and a donation of USD 2,500 worth of equipment to the Karni Health Centre.

Dr. Balure also highlighted plans for the Rotaract Club of Wa to receive its charter presentation to operate under Rotary International, emphasizing the need for continued commitment from members to achieve the Club's goals for the upcoming Rotary year.

Mr. Jonathan Kwofie, the current President of the Rotary Club of Wa, emphasized the importance of unity among members, aligning with the 2025/2026 theme 'Unite for Good'. He stressed that cohesion and a shared purpose are crucial for achieving and impacting the world positively as Rotarians.

Mr. Kwofie announced future plans, including establishing electronic libraries at Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University and three Senior High Schools in the region, conducting prostate and cervical cancer screenings in Wa, and refurbishing the Wa SHS Laboratory with modern equipment. The Club also intends to construct an ultra-modern kitchen for the Wa Methodist School for the Blind as its 10-year anniversary legacy project, with support from other Rotary Clubs and individuals.

The Rotary International focuses on seven key areas: peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and community development, and environmental protection.
