Prestea: Traditional leaders, local churches, and Muslim communities in Prestea, together with security services, organized a peace walk on Saturday to advocate for violence-free elections scheduled for December 7, 2024. The event saw the participation of hundreds, including security personnel, clergy, political parties, and students, who marched through the streets of Prestea and Himan to promote electoral peace. According to Ghana News Agency, Chief Superintendent of Police William Jalialu, the Prestea Police Commander, emphasized the importance of the event in building community solidarity and preventing electoral violence. He highlighted the unique aspect of participants marching under the Ghana National flag rather than party colors, which reinforced the message of unity. Jalialu expressed hope that such demonstrations of unity would continue to resonate with the public, ensuring a peaceful electoral atmosphere. The walk included representatives from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Servic e, Ghana Immigration Service, National Ambulance Service, and the National Commission for Civic Education, among others. Students carried placards promoting non-violence and civic responsibility with messages like 'Say no to violence' and 'My vote is my power.' Speakers at the event included Nana Nteboah Prah IV, Divisional Chief of Himan-Prestea, Apostle Isaac Arthur, Chairman of the Local Council of Churches in Prestea, and Alhaji Abdul Karim Hassan Hussein, Chief Imam of Prestea. They collectively urged the community, especially the youth, to avoid acts that could lead to violence, emphasizing the value of life over political allegiance. Chief Superintendent Jalialu assured residents of ongoing efforts by security services to maintain peace throughout the election period, stressing the need for continued community support and cooperation. The security services plan to hold similar events leading up to and possibly after the elections to reinforce their message of peace and unity.
