WR Women’s Group Celebrates Passage of Affirmative Action Law in Western Region

Western region: Women from various groups in the Western Region organized a walk to express their gratitude for the recent passage of the Affirmative Action Law, a significant move expected to bolster gender equality and empowerment. The participants, assembled by the Advocates and Trainers for Children and Women's Advancement and Rights, a group supported by Bantu, marched with a brass band and displayed placards praising the legislative achievement. According to Ghana News Agency, the march not only served as a public show of support for the Affirmative Action Law but also as a call to the government for its robust implementation. Madam Ekua Ansah Eshun, who led the group, emphasized the importance of establishing a clear implementation plan backed by adequate resources to ensure the law's effectiveness. During the event, the group presented appreciation notes to the Western Region Coordinating Council, highlighting the landmark nature of the legislation and its potential to transform society through enhan ced gender parity. Madam Ansah Eshun articulated the group's expectations, stating, "To ensure the Act's transformative potential, we urge the government to establish clear timelines, milestones, and performance indicators, provide the financial resources for capacity building, training, and establish an independent review assessment of implementation." The Affirmative Action Law is designed to address strategic gender needs comprehensively, aiming to create an equitable playing field for all women in the region.
