Accra: Yara Ghana Limited, a prominent player in crop nutrition, has contributed GHS 25,000 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support the upcoming National Farmers' Day celebrations. This donation underscores the company's commitment to the agricultural sector and its ongoing efforts to enhance farmer productivity and sustainability in Ghana. According to Ghana News Agency, this year's contribution from Yara Ghana not only supports the event financially but also continues a tradition of involvement that dates back to the company's establishment in Ghana in 2007. Over the years, Yara has consistently provided both financial assistance and crop nutrition products to help recognize and reward the efforts of Ghanaian farmers. Ms. Theresa Randolph, Country Manager of Yara Ghana, during the donation ceremony, reiterated the company's dedication to uplifting farmers nationwide. She highlighted that the company's participation in the National Farmers' Day celebrations aligns with its broader objective of e mpowering farmers at all levels. Ms. Randolph pointed out the critical role farmers play in national progress and emphasized Yara Ghana's support for initiatives that appreciate and reward their contributions. 'Our support for agriculture is rooted in a long-term vision for sustainability and the ambition of growing a nature-positive food future," said Ms. Randolph. She added that the company is keen on promoting sustainable farming practices which balance productivity with environmental responsibility. Further detailing the company's initiatives, Ms. Randolph mentioned the introduction of YaraVita CropLift Bio, a new foliar fertilizer designed to further enhance crop nutrition. This product is part of Yara's continuous efforts to offer innovative solutions that support sustainable agricultural practices, ensuring the prosperity of farmers and the country's food security. The company also actively engages in providing farmers with practical knowledge and solutions through its extension services, and conduc ts research to create affordable, environmentally friendly crop nutrition solutions. These services offer practical training and guidance on best agronomy practices that improve soil health efficiency, which aids in optimizing production output, increasing and improving crop quality, and maximizing profitability. Additionally, Yara Ghana organizes crop clinics across various regions, providing a platform for farmers to interact with agricultural experts and receive advice on improving their farming practices. These forums are crucial in bridging knowledge gaps and empowering farmers with the tools they need to succeed. In 2023, Yara Ghana also recognized and rewarded 198 retailers through the YaraConnect Loyalty programme, a digital platform designed to facilitate sales and accumulate points for rewards. This initiative aims to bridge gaps within the agricultural supply chain and promote sustainable practices nationwide. The donation of over 18,000mt of YaraMila Actyva fertilizer through the Yara Grow Ghan a initiative further exemplifies the company's commitment to supporting especially smallholder farmers, ensuring their access to essential resources for sustainable food production during periods of high global fertilizer costs and limited availability. Mr. Yaw Frimpong Addo, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture and Chairman of the National Farmers' Day Planning Committee, expressed his gratitude towards Yara Ghana for its ongoing commitment and significant impact on enhancing the livelihoods of farmers through financial contributions and proactive support in sustainable agricultural practices.
