Sanaa: The leader of Yemen's Houthis declared on Monday that his group is prepared for any potential US military action against Iran, cautioning that further escalation could have wide-ranging implications across the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, in a televised address broadcasted by the Houthi-run Al-Masirah channel, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi suggested that the United States might be gearing up for renewed hostilities following what he termed the failure of prior initiatives. He criticized the United States for not honoring its commitments and accused it of planning to intensify pressure on Iranian ports, potentially affecting the global economy.
Al-Houthi also claimed that US President Donald Trump prioritizes Israeli interests over those of the United States. He warned that any new military escalation in the region would have 'serious consequences.' He stressed that the Houthis are militarily ready for any developments that may arise.
The backdrop of this tension includes regional hostilities that have risen since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran in February. Iran retaliated with strikes on Israel and US allies in the Gulf, as well as by closing the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation took effect on April 8, but further negotiations in Islamabad failed to yield a permanent resolution. President Trump subsequently extended the truce indefinitely.
