Adaklu Kofe Residents Urge Authorities for Safe and Accessible Water System

ADAKLU KOFE: Residents of Adaklu Kofe, a farming community in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, have made an urgent appeal to the Kadjebi District Assembly and other organizations to provide a safe, potable, and accessible water system for their domestic use. The community, home to more than 200 individuals, currently relies on a contaminated stream located six kilometers away for their water needs. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Peter Wemenyo, a former assemblyman and community elder, highlighted the challenges faced by the residents due to the unreliable water source. He noted that the stream often dries up, forcing community members to purchase sachet water. The lack of convenient access to clean water has also impacted the academic performance of local students, who must travel the six kilometers to fetch water before embarking on an additional seven-kilometer journey to school in Gyamonome for their primary and junior high school education. Mr. Wemenyo emphasized the health risks associated with the community's current water situation, noting instances of diarrhea and rashes among residents who use the stream water without boiling it. During the dry season, those attempting to use the muddy water resort to purifying it with potassium alum, a practice he described as a distressing ordeal. He appealed to benevolent organizations and NGOs to assist the community by installing a mechanized water system, which would alleviate the challenges faced by the residents of Adaklu Kofe.
