ADAMUS Resources Hosts Successful 2025 Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition

Ampain: The zone two Inter-Mines First Aid Safety Competition has concluded in Ampain, located in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, urging mining companies to prioritize safety to reduce accidents and occupational hazards.

According to Ghana News Agency, the competition featured several mining companies, including ADAMUS Resources Ltd, Aboso Goldfields Limited, Newmont Ahafo North Mines Ltd, ZIJIN Golden Ridge Limited, and Golden Star Wassa Mines, which showcased various scenarios of casualties involved in accidents and hazards. The event, under the auspices of ADAMUS Resources Limited and St. John's Ambulance Services, was themed: 'Every Moment is an Ambush: Think Safety at All Times.'

Aboso Goldfields emerged as the winner of the contest, with ZIJIN Golden Ridge and Golden Star Wassa Mines securing second and third places, respectively. ADAMUS Resources Ltd and Newmont Ahafo North Mines placed fourth and fifth. All participating companies received prizes, including appliances such as flat screen smart television sets and deep freezers.

Madam Angela List, Chief Executive Officer of Nguvu Mines and ADAMUS Resources Limited, stated during the event that the competition highlighted the importance of health, safety, and well-being in the mining industry. She emphasized teaching miners how to prevent accidents and save lives. Madam List also mentioned the company's investment in exploration campaigns and its focus on long-term sustainability for host communities.

Madam List revealed that more than 60% of their workforce comes from host communities, with scholarships benefiting over 400 students from operational areas. Additionally, as part of their women's empowerment program, 87 women from Teleku-Bokazo have been trained in income-generating ventures and supported with start-up tools for liquid soap making, supplying ADAMUS Resources Limited's cleaning services.

Mr. Kwadwo Opoku Ansah, General Manager of ADAMUS Resources Ltd, highlighted that mining is a hazardous profession and stressed the need for workers to remain alert to risks, emphasizing that safety should not be taken for granted. He urged that the competition should be transformational, focusing on vigilance, preparedness, and a shared commitment to safety.

Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, Chairman of the Ghana National Chamber of Mines, called on industry players to renew their commitment to safety, ensuring that every worker returns home safely. He also encouraged traditional rulers and local authorities to tackle illegal mining activities to protect the environment.

Awulae Attibrukusu III, Paramount Chief of the Lower Axim Traditional Area, who chaired the event, underscored the importance of the competition in improving operational outcomes for mining companies and their workforce.
