Tamale: Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), has paid a courtesy call to Mr. Ali Adolf John, the Northern Regional Minister, at his office in Tamale. The visit aimed to introduce Dr. Okrah and his deputy to the Regional Minister and establish a working relationship.
According to Ghana News Agency, the TCDA was established by an Act of Parliament to regulate and develop the production, processing, and trading of tree crops, including cashew, shea, mango, coconut, and rubber. During the visit, Dr. Okrah emphasized the Authority's commitment to enhancing the productive use of the region's tree crops to boost the local economy and improve the livelihoods of farmers and communities involved in cultivation.
He also addressed some challenges facing the Authority, particularly the issue of bushfires, noting their significant environmental impact. Mr. John, in response, welcomed the delegation and highlighted the region's abundant tree crop resources, especially shea trees, which are a crucial income source for local communities.
The Minister pointed out that women who collect shea nuts often encounter unfavorable market conditions and encouraged Dr. Okrah to implement strategies to alleviate this issue. He assured the delegation of his full support for the Authority's initiatives, recognizing its vital role in managing the production, processing, and trading of tree crops.
