Akatsi: The Akatsi South Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has embarked on a series of activities to mark its 28 years of firefighting excellence and safety education in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the celebration will include an awareness-creation float, a school-children's familiarization visit, sporting activities, public education on safety, a clean-up exercise, and a jama night, under the theme 'Two Decades plus Eight Years of Firefighting Excellence.' This was announced by Divisional Officer Grade III Mr. Savior Alderson Coffie, the Akatsi South Municipal Fire Commander, during a simulation exercise at St. Paul's Hospital Ltd in Akatsi as part of their week-long activities.
Mr. Coffie explained that the event is part of efforts to promote fire safety, search, and rescue awareness in the communities. The fire safety and simulation exercise at St. Paul's is aimed at enhancing the rescue and firefighting skills of firefighters, while also showcasing their operational preparedness to the public.
A statement released by Fireman Yevu Senyo Lawrence, the acting Akatsi South Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the collaborative effort tested emergency procedures and highlighted the importance of prompt reporting and response to emergencies, as well as adherence to fire safety protocols. The display aimed to inform residents about efforts to mitigate the prevalence of fire outbreaks in the Municipality and reinforce the commitment to public safety.
The climax of these activities is scheduled for Friday, October 31, at the Agbedrafor School Park, where several dignitaries are expected to attend the occasion.
