TAMALE: The Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anaesthetists (GACRA) has honored Dr. Sylvanus Kampo, a Senior Lecturer at the Clement Kubindiwo Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS), for his significant contributions to the professional growth of its members. Dr. Kampo, who heads the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department at the School of Medical Sciences, was recognized for his dedication to advancing the education of Certified Registered Anaesthetists (CRAs) in Ghana. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. James Nwisangra, the President of GACRA, presented a plaque to Dr. Kampo during a ceremony held as part of this year's World Anaesthesia Day celebrations. The inscription on the plaque acknowledged Dr. Kampo's "enviable commitment to ensuring the CRAs in Ghana climb the ladder of higher education," highlighting his unparalleled efforts in supporting their academic and professional pursuits. World Anaesthesia Day, observed annually on October 16, marks the anniversary of t he first successful use of Diethyl ether anaesthesia in surgery in 1846. This year's event, themed "Workforce Well-Being," not only celebrated advancements in the field of anaesthesiology but also emphasized the critical role anaesthesia plays in enhancing patient safety, comfort, and surgical outcomes. The GACRA lauded Dr. Kampo as "an epitome of knowledge" and expressed its intention to continue leveraging his expertise to further the academic opportunities available to its members. Mr. Nwisangra also indicated the association's readiness to collaborate with CKT-UTAS to facilitate higher education opportunities for anaesthetists, ultimately aiming to elevate healthcare services provided to the community.
