Ashaiman NCCE Hosts 2025 Constitutional Quiz Competition for Schools

Ashaiman: The Ashaiman Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), supported by Opportunity International Savings and Loans (OISL), has organised the 2025 Constitutional quiz competition for schools within the municipality. The event concluded with Life Preparatory School securing first place with 98 points, followed closely by Chrisdof International School with 96 points, and Nurumu Stafia Islamic 'A' Basic School in third place with 72 points.

According to Ghana News Agency, the quiz featured questions from selected chapters of Ghana's 1992 Constitution, covering topics such as the rights and responsibilities of citizens, roles of the NCCE, current affairs, and idiomatic expressions. Madam Salvata Mawulom Koku, the Ashaiman Municipal Director of the NCCE, emphasized that the commission's mandate to promote constitutional awareness, civic responsibility, and democratic participation among citizens was reflected in activities like the constitutional quiz competition for basic pupils.

Madam Koku explained that the 2025 quiz was part of the commemoration of Ghana's 68th Independence anniversary, under the theme 'Ghana's Future, Our Collective Responsibility.' The event aimed to deepen patriotism and civic consciousness among the younger generation. She stressed that engaging and interactive civic education has the potential to instill patriotism, deepen understanding of national values, and encourage active citizenship.

Mr Mawuli Agbenu, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the NCCE, noted that the commission's goal was to make the constitution more accessible to the youth through a friendly quiz competition. He pointed out that the event provided an opportunity for pupils to learn, build self-confidence, and improve public speaking skills. He emphasized the importance of understanding the constitution, which outlines citizens' rights and responsibilities, as stipulated in Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution.

Mr Kwabena Acheampong, the Ashaiman Branch Manager of Opportunity International Savings and Loans, encouraged students to prioritize their education and manage their time effectively. He reminded them that failure is a part of life and urged them to learn from their experiences. He advised seeking guidance from teachers, parents, and elders, rather than succumbing to peer pressure.

Miss Joana Mensah, a pupil from Life Preparatory School, expressed that the competition provided valuable insights into the 1992 Constitution and their roles as citizens. She urged her peers to uphold the constitution and fulfill their civic duties.
