Atwima nwabiagya south: The Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly has distributed start-up items and funds totaling GHS192,000 to support 54 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, this initiative provides cheques totaling GHS94,000 to 32 beneficiaries to aid in educational, health, and income-generating activities. Additionally, the Assembly has provided 15 deep freezers, three fufu pounding machines, three wheelchairs, and a laptop, collectively worth GHS98,000, to selected recipients.
Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Municipal Chief Executive, emphasized that this support aligns with the government's commitment to allocate three percent of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to PWDs. This effort aims to empower individuals with disabilities to participate actively in the economy and contribute to national development. Mr. Boamah highlighted the importance of this initiative in ensuring that PWDs are equipped to work and support their families.
Furthermore, Mr. Boamah revealed a proposed increase in the DACF allocation for PWDs from three to five percent, as intended by President John Dramani Mahama, which would strengthen support for vulnerable communities.
Mr. Gaspard Seyth Amponsah, the Municipal Social Development Officer, described the intervention as timely, especially with the festive season approaching. He assured that his department would monitor the beneficiaries to ensure the proper use of the items and funds.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Peter Akwasi Okyere, the Municipal Secretary of the PWDs Association, expressed gratitude to the government and the Assembly for their ongoing support. He urged for the swift implementation of the proposed increase in DACF allocation to enhance assistance for PWDs across the nation.
