Azorebisi Community Completes Renovation of Health Workers’ Quarters in Sumbrungu

Azorebisi: The Azorebisi community in the suburb of Sumbrungu, Bolgatanga Municipality, has successfully renovated the living quarters for health workers at the Community-based Health Planning Service (CHPS) compound. The renovation initiative, spearheaded by the Azorebisi Development Group, aimed to refurbish the previously dilapidated facility, enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery, particularly for pregnant women and children. According to Ghana News Agency, the refurbishment cost the community approximately GH?22,500.00. Before the renovation, the accommodation had severe structural issues, including deep cracks in the walls and floors, a leaking roof, and flooding during rainfalls, rendering it uninhabitable. The dire condition forced health workers to commute from distant locations, including Bolgatanga, the regional capital, which compromised healthcare delivery especially during emergencies. Mr. Charles Ayambire, Chairman of the Azorebisi Development Group, highlighted that the renovation beg an with a fundraising event in the community. The initiative not only aimed to provide decent accommodation for health workers but also to strengthen healthcare services in Azorebisi. Mr. Ayambire noted the challenges faced by residents, particularly pregnant women, who had to travel extensive distances to access medical care when the quarters were uninhabitable. The renovated facility is expected to attract essential health staff such as physician assistants, midwives, and nurses, and ensure a steady supply of critical drugs. Mr. Elias Ayinbila Apasiya, Assemblyman for the Azorebisi Electoral Area, praised the community's effort and stressed the importance of self-help projects in accelerating local development in health and education sectors. Madam Christiana Ateere, who is in charge of the CHPS compound, expressed her gratitude towards the community's efforts. She emphasized that the availability of on-site accommodation would significantly improve health workers' ability to attend to patients promptly, especially during nighttime emergencies.
