Techiman: Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister, has inaugurated a 23-member council tasked with spearheading the development of the region. The council, which includes representatives from the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and other stakeholders, is responsible for monitoring and supervising the execution of development projects.
According to Ghana News Agency, the council has the oversight responsibility to coordinate plans and programs that align with the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). During the Maiden Medium Term Development Planning meeting of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council in Techiman, Mr. Antwi swore the council members into office and urged them to work diligently to improve security.
Mr. Antwi acknowledged the successful resolution of a long-standing chieftaincy dispute in Nkoranza and Kintampo. He expressed optimism that other disputes in the area would also be resolved, thus strengthening the region's prevailing peace. He praised stakeholders' efforts in curbing illegal mining activities and called for continued support to address recurring incidents of armed robbery on highways.
Additionally, Mr. Gyan Lamptey, the Bono East Regional Environmental Health Officer, expressed concern over poor sanitation and waste management, urging the community to help preserve the environment.
