Sunyani: The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Yao D Tettegah, the Bono Regional Police Commander, has called for effective media collaboration in combating the crime wave in the region. He emphasized that modern policing remains a collective responsibility, urging the public to also support the police in addressing the growing trend of robberies on some of the highways in the region.
According to Ghana News Agency, DCOP Tettegah highlighted that armed robberies in the region pose threats to the safety of passengers, drivers, and commuters. He made this appeal during a courtesy call by the Bono and Ahafo Regional Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Sunyani. The meeting recalled reported incidents of armed robberies on some highways in the region that have led to the loss of lives and personal belongings.
DCOP Tettegah assured that the regional command has implemented measures, including intensified police patrols, to address the situation. He stressed that the police alone cannot tackle the crime wave in the region and highlighted the necessity for support from both the media and the public.
He urged travelers to remain calm and assured them of the police's commitment to ensuring general safety on the highways. DCOP Tettegah also encouraged the public to provide the police with information about suspected criminals, assuring them that informants' confidentiality is always guaranteed.
DCOP Tettegah praised the media's role in highlighting security issues in the region and assured that the police would continue to work diligently to maintain law and order and protect the lives of the people. He reminded the media of their crucial role in promoting law enforcement efforts and urged practitioners to support the police in crime control and prevention.
