HOHOE: Pastor Nana Boame Jones, Project Manager for the Forshes Africa Foundation, has urged breast cancer survivors to share their personal stories and experiences to provide hope and support to patients recently diagnosed with the disease. Speaking at an event organized by the Foundation at the Hohoe Baptist International Church, Pastor Jones emphasized the importance of early detection, aligning it with biblical principles that advocate for proactive health measures. According to Ghana News Agency, Pastor Jones highlighted the scriptural reference from Proverbs 27:12, which underscores the significance of being cautious and taking preventive actions. The Forshes Africa Foundation, an international non-governmental organization based in Ghana, aims to empower women and organized the event to raise breast cancer awareness and offer screening services. Many women benefitted from the initiative. Mr. Jonas Ntikie Njibe, an Oncology Nurse Specialist at the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe, explained that breas t cancer results from uncontrolled cell growth in the breast, predominantly affecting women. He stressed the importance of understanding symptoms, risk factors, and prevention methods to enhance early detection and treatment success. While there is no guaranteed way to prevent breast cancer, Mr. Njibe recommended lifestyle changes such as moderating alcohol consumption, avoiding smoking, maintaining a healthy diet and weight, exercising regularly, and encouraging breastfeeding to reduce risk. Some attendees expressed their appreciation for the Foundation's efforts in raising awareness and providing valuable health services.
